Picture-Situation

We are in an unusual situation this week, at the start of November 2024. Before Saturday's storm, Broome had experienced dry conditions, particularly compared to last year.

The news told us that it had been so dry that drains had been filled with a lot of debris that is usually flushed away by some rain during the dry season. Because the drains have not had their occasional "flush", the roads to our school have been damaged and need repair before we return next week.

As you can see, the weather is fine; however, the roads are temporarily underwater, and any travel on them is unsafe and can cause damage. Even though the sun is shining in the picture, the white car should not be driving. We will use this current real-life situation to develop skills in math investigation. Maths is really useful in helping us understand more about situations that impact us.

Next week, you will be working in groups on a maths investigation situation and question that is your choice.
